Sixth Form Information, Advice & Guidance

The Sixth Form @ Woodkirk Academy is committed to enabling students to be able to make informed decisions about post-18 progression routes.

For students choosing to pursue Higher Education, we offer a range of support including:

  • Participation in Group Tutorials throughout Year 12, including the use of Unifrog. 
  • Completion of personal statements and the research aspect of applying to Higher Education. 
  • Fortnightly mentoring meetings with Form Tutor throughout Year 12 and Year 13. 
  • Visit to UCAS HE Convention typically held in the Summer Term of Year 12. 
  • Personal Statement workshop delivered by a University. 
  • Admissions Tutor in the Summer term of Year 12. 
  • Authorised absences to promote visits to open days and taster/subject focus days. 
  • Year 12 (summer term) and Year 13 (autumn term) HE Information Evening for parents.  

One-to-one and small group support, including guidance on pre-entry exams for:

 -  Law

 -  Medicine, Dentistry and Veterinary Science

 -  Mathematics and Engineering

  • Applications to Oxford and / or Cambridge
  • Work experience week for all students during the Summer term of Year 12
  • Regular updates about emerging opportunities, published via Form Tutors, TEAMS, the Sixth Form student bulletin and regular email updates from the Sixth Form team
  • One-to-one advice by appointment with our Careers Advisers (parents are welcome to attend).  To arrange an appointment please email careers@woodkirk.leodis.org.uk.

We are immensely proud of our long-established relationships with universities across the North West region, with representatives from these institutions regularly attending Careers Events and Open Evenings in order to advise students regarding their option choices and to add support for LMAT, BMAT and other admissions tests.

Students are also regularly informed about different levels of Apprenticeships available at 16 and 18 with support offered on how to access these. Those interested in apprenticeship options would be encouraged to access the government website Find an Apprenticeship which shows the current availability within the UK.
