                Art

The Art Department enjoys purpose built facilities which are situated in the White Block.  We have a team of four Art specialists as well as an experienced Art technician.

The team have a wide range of experience and expertise in teaching a range of specialisms including:

                Fine Art Disciplines

                Graphic Design

                Ceramics

                Textiles

                Printing

                Art History

The Department is well equipped with data projectors, computers and a purpose built kiln room.  Our students have access to ICT through use of facilities booked through the ICT department.  We have a dedicated Art studio which is exclusively used by our Level 3 BTEC extended Diploma and extended certificate students.

Key Stage 3 students are taught in mixed ability form groups.  Students in Years 9, 10 and 11 have the option of following either the Edexcel BTEC level 2 course or the AQA GCSE course.  Examination results are outstanding (100% A-C at GCSE and 100% A-C in BTEC) and well above the national average. In the Sixth Form the department offers a comprehensive range of courses which include the Level 3 BTEC Extended Diploma (full time two year course) and a fine Art based BTEC extended certificate .

We work to encourage and support students’ talents outside the classroom.  We offer extra hours support after school four nights a week, as well as running specialist classes in topics such as oil painting and printmaking.  We also run catch-up and exam preparation classes during the Easter and half term holidays. Students are given the opportunity to produce artwork for the local community, including the Morley murals project, and we encourage them to become involved in producing craft items which are sold to raise money for charity.
