Open Evening at Woodkirk Academy
THURSDAY 8 OCTOBER - 5pm
23 SEPTEMBER 2020
Dear Year 6 Parent
Normally at this time of the year, I would be inviting you to our Open Day and Evening. This annual event gives parents an opportunity to meet our experienced staff, to see our specialist facilities and to learn about the wide range of courses that we offer. Most importantly, it allows you to see us at work and to meet our fantastic students who are, in my opinion, the best ambassadors for our Academy.
During the Open Evening, I would normally give a presentation summarising all the advantages of choosing Woodkirk Academy. The presentation would also include students talking about their positive experiences of the school. Our Open Evenings are very interactive and give parents and students the opportunity to talk to staff and our students and, in many cases, participate in practical activities. Many parents also often want an opportunity to see the Academy at work during a normal working day and join us on our early morning tours when the school is in full operation.
Unfortunately, due to the present Coronavirus restrictions on large gatherings affecting visitors to our site, this will not be possible this year. This is as much of a disappointment to us as it is for you as we are very proud of Woodkirk Academy and always look forward to showing prospective parents and their son/daughter around the school. We intend to replace these events with a combination of video presentations and virtual tours; we will confirm the format and timings for these very soon.
Of course nothing can replace the experience of physically visiting Woodkirk Academy but we hope that the alternative events that we will provide plus our website, prospectus, published exam results, the most recent Ofsted Inspection report and, crucially, the very positive reputation of the Academy in the local community, will give you a significant amount of information to base your decision as to which secondary school you choose for your son/daughter for September 2021.
I should point out that the school is currently heavily over-subscribed, with waiting lists, and we expect a high number of applications for September 2021. We have a very clear admission criteria which we follow. Please refer to our Admission Policy on our website for details of this criteria. To assist with this, Mr Cook, Vice Principal, will deliver a brief presentation as part of our alternative event outlining the admissions criteria for the Academy and explain how you apply.
I am passionate about the first class education that Woodkirk Academy can provide for all students. I hope that you will be convinced that this is the right place for your child.
Please remember to submit your application by 31st October to the Local Authority where you pay your council tax.
Mrs Joe Barton
Deadlines for applications should be submitted to the applicant’s Local Authority by 31st October 2020 and National Offer Day is Monday 1st March 2021
