Open Evening at Woodkirk Academy
THURSDAY 30 SEPTEMBER - 6pm
Dear Year 6 Parent,
I would like to invite you to our Open Evening. This annual event gives parents an opportunity to meet our experienced staff, to see our specialist facilities and to learn about the wide range of courses that we offer. Most importantly, it allows you to see us at work and to meet our fantastic students who are, in my opinion, the best ambassadors for our Academy.
Circumstances are still very different to previous years, and it is important that we continue to be cautious when inviting in large groups of people. Therefore, invited guests will be guided on a tour around the school by Year 7 students, visiting all subject areas.
The guided tour will take one-hour and upon entry, visitors will receive a prospectus. In order to guarantee a smooth flow of visitors throughout the evening, we would ask that you book in your arrival time (in increments of 10-minutes) and adhere to your chosen start time. The booking system will be live from Friday 24 September (link will be published at the top of this news item).
We are extremely pleased to return to providing the experience of physically visiting Woodkirk Academy - as opposed to a virtual presentation. We hope that the Open Evening, plus our website, prospectus, published exam results, the most recent Ofsted Inspection report and, crucially, the very positive reputation of the Academy in the local community, will give you a significant amount of information to base your decision as to which secondary school you choose for your son/daughter for September 2022. It is worth noting that the presentations which were, traditionally, delivered in the Main Hall to a large group of visitors will still be delivered virtually. On the evening, you will be provided with the link to my presentation.
I should point out that the school is currently heavily over-subscribed, with waiting lists, and we expect a high number of applications for September 2022. We have a very clear admission criteria which we follow. Please refer to our Admission Policy on our website for details of this criteria. To assist with this, Mr Cook, Vice Principal, will deliver a brief presentation as part of our alternative event outlining the admissions criteria for the Academy and explain how you apply.
I am passionate about the first class education that Woodkirk Academy can provide for all students. I hope that you will be convinced that this is the right place for your child.
Please remember to submit your application by 31 October to the Local Authority where you pay your council tax.
Deadlines for applications should be submitted to the applicant’s Local Authority by 31st October 2021 and National Offer Day is Monday 1st March 2022
