Careers Events

During the Autumn/Winter term of the 2018/19 academic year we were incredibly busy organising and delivering a number of successful Careers events. These included:

  • Annual Careers Fair
  • A visit into Year 10 and 11 R.E. lessons from a prominent Imam
  • Guest speaker presentation from the Bank of England technology team for all Year 9 students
  • Mock interviews for 26 Year 12 and 13 students conducted by corporate professionals
  • Trip to Leeds University student halls for Year 12 students

During the Spring 2019 term, we welcomed STEM professionals into School to conduct a focussed workshop with selected Year 12 students. This workshop had strong curriculum links and was incredibly beneficial to our students. We also hosted two Year 10 workshops in conjunction with the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors. The students learned about the world of surveying in practice, and undertook group activities to enhance their learning around Geography and Maths.

During the last half term, Johnson & Johnson have delivered an assembly to our Year 12 students, and they are also hosting a "Careers Day" for some Year 13 students in November 2019. We also welcomed a former Woodkirk student, who is now a serving member of the Royal Air Force, into School to deliver talks about careers in the RAF, Post 16 opportunities and raising aspirations generally.

We have many exciting events planned for the remainder of our Summer term, including:

  •  Art trip for selected Year 7 students - June 2019
  •  Civil engineering workshop for Year 8 students - July 2019
  •  Year 8 visit to Curtins, our Enterprise Adviser company - July 2019
  •  Legal & General "Money Matters" workshop for Year 10 students - July 2019
  • Apprenticeship talks from ASK (Apprenticeships, Skills and Knowledge) and Curtins to Year 12 - July 2019
