Summer of Science at Woodkirk Academy

Students at Woodkirk Academy spent the summer term learning about studying Science at university and applications of Science in the real world.

A group of year 10 students spent two weeks learning about electrochemistry and investigating which part of a chilli is the hottest before presenting their work to a group of Oxford University academics.

Woodkirk Academy has recently become a partner school to Leeds University engineering department.  Students from years 9-12 participated in the first of a series of workshops run by Leeds University engineering department to learn how they can use their scientific skills to design objects that improve people's lives.

Finally, a team of year 7 and 8 students won the KS3 Golden Bunsen science competition at Temple Moor High School while our year 10 students achieved joint second place in the KS4 category.
